Since the first time Venus and Serena Williams stepped onto a tennis court, the sport was forever changed.
Nike’s new film, “You Can’t Stop Sisters,” shows how the Williams sisters have influenced tennis, and lifted each other up at every step of their journey using the power of sport and sisterhood.
The film is the brand’s latest effort in its ongoing You Can’t Stop Sports commercials, from Wieden+Kennedy, that balance superstar athletes competing on the field and questioning societal issues.
Over a series of clips from the sisters’ past, we hear Serena, “Ever since we were little girls, you’ve compared us to each other. My game vs. her game. My ranking vs. her ranking. My titles vs. her titles. My grandslams vs. her grandslams. It’s funny. You saw two tennis players trying to win a game. And we saw two sisters changing it.”

“We were born sisters, but we’ve become each other’s biggest allies,” says Serena. “For us, being sisters is everything. On and off the court, we’re each other’s biggest competitors, but we’re also each other’s biggest advocates. We are where we are today because we did this together.”
The film, which has over 9 million views on YouTube since yesterday, is currently posted to Venus and Serena’s individual Instagram accounts and on Nike’s social channels. It will run during the US Open tennis tournament and the NBA playoffs.
It’s a piece of creative that makes you want to stop reading this and call your sister. Or in this writer’s case, brother. It’s also why it’s our “Reel Ad of the Week.”
