Tom Cruise’s last Mission? Watch Final Reckoning trailer

Final Reckoning

Tom Cruise is back in action in the newly released teaser for Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, marking what could be his last appearance as Ethan Hunt.

In the eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible series, the 62-year-old star once again takes on gravity-defying stunts, including hanging off the side of a yellow airplane and engaging in intense hand-to-hand combat, shirtless. The trailer also shows Cruise in a range of high-adrenaline scenes, from running full speed through city streets to exploring underwater depths in scuba gear.

In the trailer, Cruise’s character delivers the line, “Our lives are the sum of our choices,” hinting at the high-stakes narrative arc that promises a climactic showdown. Watch below:

The film’s tagline, shared on Cruise’s Instagram, reads, “Every choice has led to this.” Whether or not this will serve as Ethan Hunt’s swan song remains unconfirmed, though the film is generating significant buzz as it gears up for what could be a memorable send-off for the iconic character.

The film follows 2023’s Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, where Ethan Hunt and the IMF team went head-to-head with a rogue AI known as “The Entity.” Initially, the eighth movie was to be titled Dead Reckoning Part Two, but following the first film’s mixed box office performance, which faced stiff competition from the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, the title was updated.

Angela Bassett is set to reprise her role as Erika Sloane, joining an impressive lineup of returning cast members, including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, and Henry Czerny. New to the franchise are actors Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Katy O’Brian, Holt McCallany, and Tramell Tillman.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, his fourth time at the helm of the Mission: Impossible series, The Final Reckoning is expected to hit theaters on May 23, 2025.
