Superman: Legacy adds Hawkgirl, Green Lantern and Mr. Terrific

Well, this is unexpectedly big news. DC Studios head honcho and Superman: Legacy director James Gunn has announced additional casting picks for the film that launches the new DC universe.

Joining David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane are Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Gunn and fan fave, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner. And today, Anthony Carrigan was announced as Metamorpho to offer a diverse range of talent to the cast.

The inclusion of these characters suggests that Superman: Legacy may involve a broader superhero universe and potentially pave the way for a Justice League-like team-up. The mention of the Authority’s involvement further supports this notion.

It’s interesting to note that Fillion’s portrayal of Guy Gardner will feature the character’s iconic bowl haircut from the comics. This attention to detail may please fans of the character. Additionally, the confirmation of a Green Lantern TV series for the Max streaming service, focusing on Hal Jordan and John Stewart, adds to the expanding DC universe on screen.

REELated:

Gunn also plans to “grandfather in” characters from previous DC-based films and shows, such as Amanda Waller, Peacemaker, and Blue Beetle. This indicates a level of continuity and connection within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Filming is scheduled to begin early next year for a July 11, 2025 release. That of course will most likely change with the WGA and SAG-ATRA strike currently happening.

The official synopsis states the film “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
