The SAG Award nominations are in, and many are furious at the number of snubs this time around.
The SAG awards are different from other award shows because what determines an actor’s nomination is not a critic, but another actor. The nominations are made by other members of the Screen Actor’s Guild. This award is often sentimental to actors as they are voted in by their peers.
This year’s SAG Awards film nominating committee, comprised of 2,500 people chosen at random from SAG-AFTRA’s overall membership, revealed its nominations on Wednesday morning. They voted between Dec. 6 and Jan. 9 — and the snubs have audiences and fans up in arms. Some of the omissions also left the Reel 360 team scratching our collective heads.
The most shocking snub was critics’ favorite Kristen Stewart for her mesmerizing performance in Spencer. Once considered a frontrunner, Stewart was ignored for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.
While The Power of The Dog had nominees for Benedict Cumberbatch, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Kirsten Dunst, the film was ignored for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Additionally, another shocking snub was Steven Spielberg‘s West Side Story one nomination for Ariana DeBose, while newcomer Rachel Zegler was ignored. Zegler just won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes.
