Variety lauded She Came to Me as a film that is “… resonant and real, with characters who have soul instead of a chewy center.” Meanwhile, Rogerebert.com described it as a work that is “… beautifully performed and directed with great charm, unexpected wisdom and sweetness.”

Miller’s Distinctive Filmmaking

RSA Films’ President, Luke Ricci, expressed his excitement about the addition of Rebecca Miller to their roster. He said, “Rebecca is a special filmmaker, and I’m thrilled to welcome her to the RSA family. Her films showcase her remarkable talent for crafting compelling stories with rich and complex characters. Her work is emotionally tactile and beautifully resonant.”

Buddy Brakha, Executive Producer at RSA Films, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Rebecca is an extraordinary storyteller and filmmaker. We are thrilled to have her join us and introduce her to brands and agencies. Her strengths in casting, performance, and filmmaking craft are set to make a significant impact in the world of commercials and branded entertainment. Her unique ability to breathe life into original stories and characters in unexpected ways is truly captivating.”

She Came to Me and Its Origin

Miller’s film, She Came to Me, draws inspiration from a story of the same name from her collection of short fiction, Total. Notably, Total was nominated for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize last year. The film features an ensemble cast, with Peter Dinklage portraying a tortured opera composer, Anne Hathaway as his therapist wife dealing with her own issues, and Marisa Tomei as a steadfast tugboat captain captivated by romance. Her boat is temporarily anchored nearby, adding an intriguing dimension to the story. Watch the trailer below:

Miller’s involvement in She Came to Me extends beyond directing and writing; she also penned the librettos for the film’s two opera scenes. In collaboration with Bryce Dessner, who transformed her words into music, Miller brought the operas to life on screen.

The film’s narrative takes inspiration from one of Miller’s short stories, which centers around an author who has run out of inspiration and has no idea about his next book. Miller highlighted the collaborative aspect of her work, noting, “We all inspire each other; without other people, there is no inspiration.”

The Path to RSA Films

Miller’s journey to RSA Films began when her managers at Entertainment360, Eryn Brown and Darin Friedman, introduced her to Buddy Brakha and Luke Ricci of RSA Films. Their meeting took place in New York, where Miller is based. She described the encounter as “lovely” and was immediately impressed with RSA’s commitment to personal, hands-on collaboration and their unwavering dedication to maintaining the highest level of quality in their work. Miller is enthusiastic about commencing this new chapter in her career.

A Rich Filmography

Rebecca Miller boasts an impressive filmography that spans poetic dramas, dramedies, and documentaries. Her work includes the Emmy-nominated documentary Arthur Miller: Writer, Maggie’s Plan featuring Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, and Julianne Moore, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee starring Robin Wright, Alan Arkin, and Keanu Reeves, and Personal Velocity with Kyra Sedgwick, Parker Posey, and Fairuza Balk. The latter earned the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, among other honors. Notably, several of Miller’s films have found a permanent home in the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA).

Miller’s transition into commercials and branded entertainment with RSA Films promises to bring a fresh perspective and unique storytelling prowess to the world of advertising. Her ability to craft emotionally resonant narratives and complex characters is set to captivate audiences in this new realm.
