Independent Film & Television Alliance (IFTA), the global trade association representing the independent film and television industry and producer of the American Film Market (AFM), has named Jackie Brenneman as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. She succeeds Jean Prewitt, who steps down at the end of the month after 25 years leading the organization.
Brenneman brings a wide-ranging background in organizational leadership, government relations, legal practice, and nonprofit oversight. She spent nearly a decade at NATO, ultimately serving as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, where she played a key strategic role for the exhibition community during periods of industry-wide disruption. Her work spanned regulatory and competition matters, copyright and trade advocacy, revenue development, partnerships, and large-scale event management.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Brenneman led NATO’s industry relief efforts, including the “Save Our Screens” initiative, and served as President of The Cinema Foundation, the organization’s nonprofit arm focused on advancing the cultural and economic impact of theatrical exhibition.
Most recently, she served as CEO of Attend, a first-of-its-kind theatrical marketplace that connects independent filmmakers directly with exhibitors, and as a founding partner of The Fithian Group. Earlier in her career, Brenneman practiced trademark and copyright law at Foley & Lardner LLP.
“Jackie brings industry insight, legal and lobbying expertise, and a proven record of guiding complex membership organizations,” said Paul Bales, IFTA Chairperson and Partner and COO at The Asylum. “Her deep understanding of how business, public affairs, and creative communities intersect makes her uniquely qualified to lead IFTA and AFM into their next chapter.”
Brenneman called the appointment a pivotal moment for the independent sector. She noted that as the industry continues to evolve through consolidation, new financing models, and shifting approaches to production and distribution, independent companies remain well-positioned to lead meaningful change.
She also credited Prewitt’s legacy for setting the stage for IFTA’s future, pointing to the organization’s strength and the continued global relevance of AFM as a premier marketplace for dealmaking.
Prewitt, who has led IFTA since 2000, leaves behind a lasting legacy. Over her tenure, she significantly expanded the organization’s international profile and helped elevate AFM into one of the world’s most important global film and television markets. Most recently, she oversaw AFM’s successful 2025 edition, reinforcing the market’s position as a cornerstone event for the independent community.
Brenneman holds a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Irvine School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and dramatic literature from New York University.
Reel 360 News wishes Jackie the very best of luck as she steps into this new leadership role.
