Ryan Johnson: A Unique Directorial Voice

Johnson, a graduate of Tisch, has established himself as a director with a distinctive touch in the realm of documentary commercials. His career kick-started with a bang, winning the prestigious Young Director Award at Cannes for his work on Nike’s “Buckets” in 2015. He continued to impress with projects like Jordan’s “Limits Like Fears,” earning a nomination at the shots Awards.

Johnson’s portfolio boasts an array of projects for prominent brands such as Storyhunter, AMEX, McDonald’s, and Bombas. His work is marked by its textured storytelling and a deep connection with real people, transcending the conventional interview-and-B-roll format commonly seen in documentary commercials.

Beyond his talent, Johnson’s passion for adventure and travel has infused his projects, exemplified by “Capture Your World” with Storyhunter. Institutions like Filmakademie’s Porsche Awards in Stuttgart, Germany, and Ciclope in Berlin have lauded his work. Notably, Johnson recently ventured into the realm of feature documentary cinematography with Eunice Lau’s “A-TOWN BOYZ,” a compelling coming-of-age narrative about Asian-American rappers in Atlanta.

In Johnson’s own words, his focus is on “narrative structure and empathy,” a philosophy that shines through his work, effectively bridging the gap between documentary storytelling and branded content.

Stuart Wilson: A Visionary Executive Producer

Based in Los Angeles, Wilson, brings a wealth of experience to Cultivate.Media. His career in entertainment commenced as the General Manager of the West Chop Club on Martha’s Vineyard, where his people skills and a penchant for learning opened doors in development at Hearst Entertainment.

Wilson’s career journey included stage management for Prince during the rock opera “Ulysses,” starring Carmen Electra, and production work on Barbara Kopple’s “A Century of Women.” He thrived during the era of Michael Jackson, Billy-Ray Cyrus, Babyface, Billy Idol, and Prince, and his collaborations spanned renowned directors such as Michael Bay, Spike Jonze, David Fincher, and more in the music video and commercial space.

In 1994, Stuart Wilson founded Right Brain Media, a Los Angeles-based commercial production powerhouse. Notably, Right Brain Media represented over ten directors, including feature film luminaries like George Hickenlooper and James McTeigue. Their partnerships with global agencies yielded remarkable campaigns for brands ranging from Ford, Toyota, and GM to Coors, Benjamin Moore, PlayStation, and many others, accumulating awards such as Clio, EMMY, Belding, and Addy.

In 2007, Wilson shifted his focus to alternative media, digital production, social media, and interactive experiential marketing. This evolution led to the formation of Image Lab, Inc., in 2009, eventually merging with Clifton Post in 2011 to establish Proof of Concept. Throughout his career, Wilson has remained an in-demand consultant and executive producer, known for embracing ambitious projects and delivering them on time and within budget.
