Director Craig Gillespie is soaring to new heights as he enters talks to helm Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a project under DC Studios, the Warner Bros. division led by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Gillespie, renowned for his work on projects like Disney’s Cruella, the biographical drama I, Tonya, and the television series Pam & Tommy, brings his distinct blend of grounded storytelling and stylish flair to the iconic superheroine’s story.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow stars Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, as Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. Departing from the portrayal seen in the CW’s Supergirl series, the film draws inspiration from the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic, offering a fresh perspective on the character’s origins and journey.

Gunn, who heads DC Studios, provided insight into the film’s direction, emphasizing the contrast between Superman and Supergirl’s upbringing. “We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth.”

Penned by Ana Nogueira, the script delves into Supergirl’s journey of self-discovery and resilience, navigating her tumultuous past while embracing her newfound home on Earth.

With Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow adding to DC Studios’ expanding slate of projects, fans can anticipate a fresh and compelling take on one of DC Comics’ beloved heroines. While the film’s release date remains undisclosed, production is underway for Superman, DC Studios’ inaugural feature film.
