After captivating audiences with her performance in House of the Dragon, Milly Alcock has been chosen to portray Supergirl in the forthcoming DC Studios movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The announcement came directly from DC Studios CEO James Gunn, who confirmed Alcock’s casting through an Instagram post on Monday. In his statement, Gunn lauded Alcock’s remarkable talent and expressed his enthusiasm about her inclusion in the DC Universe. He commended her audition process and screen tests, highlighting her embodiment of the character Kara, as envisioned by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow creators Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
Following the announcement, Alcock took to her Instagram Story to share her excitement, thanking fans for their support.

Alcock’s rise to portraying Supergirl follows her notable appearances in various television series since her debut in 2014. Her role as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HOTD the prequel to Game of Thrones, earned her widespread recognition.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow adds Alcock to the prestigious list of actors who have portrayed the iconic superhero, joining the ranks of Melissa Benoist and Sasha Calle.
In addition to her role, Alcock’s journey in the DC Universe comes amidst the development of other superhero projects. DC Studios’ Superman: Legacy, featuring Isabela Merced, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Rachel Brosnahan, and David Corenswet, is currently in production and is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
