BMW is “Talkin’ Like Walken in Super Bowl spot

BMW is set to make a splash during Super Bowl LVIII with a new 60-second spot showcasing the all-new generation of the iconic BMW 5 Series, including the groundbreaking BMW i5 electric vehicle. Titled “Talkin’ Like Walken,” the star-studded commercial features Hollywood legend Christopher Walken, actress Ashley Park, and GRAMMY Award-winning global superstar USHER.

The creative takes viewers on a humorous journey through a day in the life of Christopher Walken, encountering an array of impersonators mimicking his distinctive voice and speech patterns. From his hotel valet to his drive-through barista, Walken navigates the comical landscape of imitators until he crosses paths with USHER, adding an unexpected twist to the storyline. “Talkin’ Like Walken” is scheduled to air during the first quarter of Super Bowl LVIII. Walken expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with BMW, stating, “I really enjoyed working with BMW, they are a wonderful company and electric cars are important.”

USHER, set to headline the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show, shared his excitement about the collaboration, saying, “It’s an honor of a lifetime to perform at the Super Bowl and so great to work with BMW.”

Directed by Bryan Buckley, the ad was crafted by BMW’s lead U.S. creative agency, Goodby Silverstein & Partners (GS&P). Famed cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema directed the photography, adding depth and visual flair to the narrative.

Marcus Casey, Chief Marketing Officer of BMW of North America, highlighted the campaign’s elements of humor and star power, stating, “Not that it’s easy, but if you start with an exciting new product, an A-List Hollywood star, a great script, and a talented team, and add to that mix, the multitalented Ashley Park, and a global superstar such as USHER, you have the makings of a hilarious, memorable spot.”

In anticipation of the ad, BMW released two teasers, “Agent” and “Singing,” each offering glimpses into the humorous and unexpected moments viewers can expect during the Super Bowl broadcast.

The BMW 5 Series, now in its eighth generation, boasts dynamic design, cutting-edge technology, and the introduction of the fully electric BMW i5. Priced starting at $57,900, the new BMW 5 Series is available at BMW dealers nationwide.

The campaign will extend to social media platforms, including a TikTok activation encouraging users to showcase their own Walken impressions with the hashtag #TalkinlikeWalken.

Super Bowl LVIII will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, February 11, 2024. It will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon. Usher will perform at halftime.
