Shawn Lacy, Co-Founder, echoed this sentiment, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome Damien to Biscuit. His distinctive filmmaking voice and his ability to brilliantly execute projects with hilarious results make him a perfect fit for the U.S. market.”

Originally hailing from Christchurch, New Zealand, Shatford’s journey into filmmaking started in the unlikeliest of places. He left school early and began working in restaurant kitchens, rising through the ranks from dish-boy to sous-chef. It was during this time that he began creating music videos for his own band, which eventually led to opportunities to craft music videos for other artists. By the age of 20, he decided to swap the dishtowel for a film school curriculum at The New Zealand Broadcasting School.

REELated:

Notable among Damien’s recent works is the spot for Macpac titled “Weather Anything,” created in collaboration with The Monkeys Melbourne. This piece featured actors in precarious positions, hanging from the side of a real mountain. Damien’s masterful storytelling subverted cinematic conventions with a deadpan Kiwi delivery, resulting in an ad with genuine cliffhanger appeal. His impressive client portfolio includes projects for Uber Eats, Toyota, TVNZ+, and Chorus.

Shatford’s accolades include award-winning campaigns, such as the uproariously funny R&B love ballad “I’m Drinking It for You” for New Zealand brewer DB Export and a zombie-themed romp for L&P soda, set to Sheryl Crow’s “All I Wanna Do.” These projects underscore his talent for exceptional casting and have earned him industry recognition, including Cannes Lions, D&AD Pencils, Clios, Webbys, and shots Awards.

“I love collaborating with clever individuals, whether it’s inventive creatives pushing boundaries, astute clients who place their trust in us, or dedicated actors and crew striving to produce their finest work. I draw inspiration from what’s possible when the right team is assembled—a bit like the 1998 film, ‘Armageddon,'” Damien Shatford commented. “I’ve been a Biscuit fanboy for over a decade. They’re a group of exceptionally clever individuals, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds in our partnership.”
