The 2025 Producers Guild of America Awards (PGA) took place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Saturday night, where Sean Baker’s Anora took home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. The win solidifies the indie drama’s standing in the Best Picture Oscar race, continuing its awards season momentum after its Critics Choice Awards victory and Baker’s recent DGA win.
The top honor at the PGA Awards is widely considered one of the most accurate predictors of the Academy Award for Best Picture, with 12 of the last 15 Oscar winners first claiming the Zanuck Award. Given that the PGA and the Academy share similar voting methods and membership sizes, Anora’s triumph makes it a strong frontrunner heading into the Oscars.
A Night Honoring Hollywood’s Best Producers
The event featured presentations from major stars showcasing the films competing for the top award. Ariana Grande and Jeff Goldblum introduced a reel for Wicked, while Peter Sarsgaard and John Magaro highlighted September 5. Jennifer Grey, Elle Fanning, Josh Brolin, and Adrien Brody also took the stage to present glimpses of their respective films.
Presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line opened the evening by addressing the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, which impacted many in the industry. They announced that the PGA had established a fire relief fund, raising $450,000 so far to assist those affected.
Throughout the night, the PGA honored industry trailblazers and outstanding contributions to film and television. The Trailblazer Award was posthumously presented to Paula Weinstein and Lynda Obst, two legendary producers who passed away last year, with Jane Fonda and Kate Hudson delivering heartfelt tributes—Hudson reflecting on her time working with Obst on How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Taika Waititi was recognized with the Norman Lear Achievement Award, presented by Jon Favreau, while Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden received the Milestone Award, introduced by Disney CEO Bob Iger. The David O. Selznick Lifetime Achievement Award went to Chris Meledandri, the CEO of Illumination, with Steve Carell presenting the honor
