In a fun twist, iconic musicians Alice Cooper and John Oates star in two comedic videos promoting the 2024 AMP Awards, despite their lack of knowledge about the competition they’re endorsing. Released by the Association of Music Producers (AMP), sponsors of the show honoring music and sound in advertising, the videos aim to announce the extended entry deadline for the awards, closing on March 18.

Created and produced in partnership with Johannes Leonardo’s in-house production studio, Attic22, the spots feature satire and deadpan comedy, with Cooper and Oates delivering performances filled with confusion and hesitation.

In one video titled “Empty Stool,” Cooper expresses reluctance, stating he “can’t even plug an album” as he hesitates to sit on a stool for the promo. He humorously questions the need for advertising for an award show about advertising, showcasing the irony in the situation. Watch below:

Meanwhile, in “PayDay,” Oates initially delivers a professional promo but eventually admits his lack of familiarity with the AMP Awards, adding to the comedic effect. Watch below:

Mitchell Wojcik, director and photographer at Attic22, explained, “The idea of having immediately identifiable rock stars helping promote an award show they’re totally unfamiliar with gave us an opportunity for a little ironic humor.”

Al Risi, founder and head of music supervision at Groove Guild and a member of the AMP Awards Steering Committee, highlighted the complexity of landing Cooper and Oates for the project but emphasized the positive outcome of their involvement. He praised their willingness to support the advertising music ecosystem and the greater music and sound community.

Founded in 1998, AMP aims to advocate for the recognition and fair compensation of music professionals in advertising. The organization hosts the AMP Awards, the industry’s only award show dedicated to music and sound in advertising.

Leo Premutico, co-founder and creative chairman of Johannes Leonardo and chair of this year’s show, expressed gratitude to Cooper and Oates for their support, emphasizing the importance of shining a spotlight on talented professionals in the industry.

The AMP Awards ceremony is scheduled for May 15 at Sony Hall in Times Square, with Cooper and Oates also contributing video teasers to boost ticket sales for the gala presentation.
