AFI x TIME announce “Dreamer of the Year” 2023

In a continued partnership, American Family Insurance and TIME are set to reveal the “Dreamer of the Year” for 2023. This accolade acknowledges individuals dedicated to safeguarding, revitalizing, and advocating for dreams, inspiring others to pursue their aspirations.

This year’s recipient is Syd Kitson, an accomplished American real estate developer and former professional football player. Kitson’s visionary project, Babcock Ranch, situated in southwest Florida, stands as the first solar-powered town in America. Babcock Ranch serves as a sustainable, master-planned community, exemplifying eco-friendly practices and integrating green technologies into its design and operation.

The announcement of the “Dreamer of the Year 2023” took place on Wednesday, 12/6, during TODAY on NBC. To mark this achievement, Elite Media, a longstanding creative agency partner for American Family Insurance, collaborated with TIME and its award-winning Red Border content division to produce videos highlighting Kitson and the Babcock Ranch project. In Kitson’s words, “There becomes an intersection of being a dreamer and a doer…when you step forward and say ‘I’m going to make this happen.’”

The :30 version of the video premiered yesterday and subsequently will air on broadcast TV. The extended video will be featured on American Family Insurance and TIME social media channels and digital platforms. Watch below:

This collaboration between American Family Insurance and TIME originated in 2020, marked by a virtual reality exhibit portraying Dr. Martin Luther King’s 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Last year’s inaugural TIME “Dreamer of the Year” was Donnel Baird, founder and CEO of BlocPower, a Brooklyn-based climate-­technology company.
