Zazie Beetz has an axe to grind in They Will Kill You trailer

They Will Kill You

Where the hell did this come from? Out of nowhere, Warner Bros. has dropped the trailer for They Will Kill You, and it’s already shaping up to be one of those “how did this slip under the radar?” genre surprises.

The horror comedy comes from writer-director Kirill Sokolov, produced by It and It: Welcome to Derry filmmaker Andy Muschietti, and stars Zazie Beetz, who continues her excellent streak of zigging where you expect a zag. After memorable turns in Atlanta, Joker and Deadpool 2, Beetz pivots here into full-on survival mode with an axe, a bad attitude, and zero patience for Satanic nonsense.

The trailer opens on a storm-lashed New York night and ushers us into the Virgil Building, described as “one of the most exclusive buildings in Manhattan.” Patricia Arquette plays the unsettling gatekeeper, welcoming Beetz’s Asia Reaves, the building’s newest maid. It does not take long for the red flags to pile up. Triple-bolted doors. Endless, Shining-style corridors. Residents who feel less eccentric-rich and more cult-adjacent.

Asia quickly learns that The Virgil isn’t just a luxury residence. It’s a full-blown temple to Satan. And the rent? A monthly human sacrifice. Unfortunately for the building’s residents, Asia is not the ideal victim.

What follows is a cheekily gory escalation that flips the power dynamic fast. Flaming axes. Brutal fistfights. Children stabbing adults. When asked how she learned to fight like this, Asia replies simply: “Prison.” It’s the kind of line delivery that tells you exactly what movie you’re in and how much fun the filmmakers are having. Watch below:

The cult may have planned carefully, but they wildly underestimated their offering.

Alongside Beetz and Arquette, the cast includes Heather Graham (really making noise again), Tom Felton, Myha’la, Darron Meyer, Armando Rivera, Gabe Gabriel, and Chris Van Resnburg. Sokolov leans hard into the contrast between polished luxury and gleeful carnage, turning wealth, ritual, and entitlement into targets for sharp satire and sharper weapons.

They Will Kill You

They Will Kill You hits theaters on March 27, and if this trailer is any indication, it’s less about who survives and more about how much blood gets spilled along the way.
