Wieden adds Michelob Ultra to its creative efforts

Feel that gust of wind? Might have been Wieden+Kennedy New York swooping down on yet another Chicago agency and flying off with the account.

In September, we reported that the award-winning agency won a huge portion of the McDonald’s creative.

Now, Ad Age is reporting that the agency will begin working on creative for Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Michelob Ultra starting next year. The agency has been working on Bud Light since 2015.

Bud Light is the nation’s top-selling beer brand. That said, its sales have been falling for years. Michelob Ultra is a light beer brands that is actually growing.

According to the Ad Age story, the brand finished last year as the nation’s fifth-largest beer brand after shipments jumped 14 percent.

While the shop is expected to play a significant role, the article reports incumbent FCB Chicago will remain involved. The extent of the agency’s involvement was not defined.

The win is another major pickup for Wieden+Kennedy. But it’s not a complete pity party for FCB.

The agency will still be responsible for the brand’s Super Bowl effort but will also work on AB InBev’s “beyond beer” brands, which include Bon & Viv spiked seltzer and its Ritas line of flavored malt beverages according to people familiar with the matter.

Watch the skies, Chicago agencies. Watch. Those. Skies.
