WGA to meet with AMPTP this Friday

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has announced that studios and streamers have requested to meet on August 4th to discuss negotiations. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), represented by Carol Lombardini, reached out to the WGA to request the meeting.

Last night, The Guild sent members this brief message:

“The AMPTP, through Carol Lombardini, reached out to the WGA today and requested a meeting this Friday to discuss negotiations.

We’ll be back in communication with you sometime after the meeting with further information. As we’ve said before, be wary of rumors. Whenever there is important news to share, you will hear it directly from us.

IN SOLIDARITY,

WGA NEGOTIATING COMMITTEE

The location of the potential meeting has not been disclosed, and the WGA has not confirmed whether they will meet on Friday. The meeting, if it takes place, would be the first step in the process of bringing the two sides together.

REELated:

The WGA has been on strike for around 14 weeks after contract talks broke down in May over several issues. The Guild’s demands include instituting viewership-based residuals, regulating artificial intelligence, and establishing minimum staffing numbers. The AMPTP has stated that some issues, such as artificial intelligence, require further discussion.

The WGA’s strike is not the only one in the industry. SAG-AFTRA, the performers’ union, also went on strike after its contract expired and no deal was reached on a successor pact. The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has already ratified an agreement with employers, addressing some issues that overlap with the WGA’s demands.

As negotiations continue between the WGA and the AMPTP, industry stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation, hoping for a resolution that addresses the concerns of both parties.
