Weston Fonger and Angelina Powers, former principal mixer and executive producer duo of Vinylmix, have launched Sound Goods, a cutting-edge audio post and sound design studio. This new venture, located online, represents a forward-thinking approach to audio production tailored for agencies and brands.

Fonger, a veteran of the New York audio post scene, was the founding mixer at Vinylmix, established in 2017 as the audio post arm of Yessian Music. Fonger and Powers aim to leverage the evolving nature of post-production work, emphasizing the importance of flexibility and reliability in a remote-first world.

“The new prevailing attitudes regarding remote workflows have provided a lot of new opportunities,” said Fonger. “Our clients value flexibility and reliability, and we are poised to take on the challenges of the current climate by remaining nimble and accommodating.”

Powers, a seasoned executive producer with over 20 years of experience in various aspects of production, highlighted the duo’s synergy as a driving force behind the launch. “We intuitively understand and appreciate each other’s strengths and skill sets. Based on this, we were ready to do all of this on our own.”

Fonger’s extensive credits include Super Bowl spots, award-winning ad campaigns, and significant projects such as Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour documentary and immersive soundscapes for NYC’s One World Observatory. Prior to his time at Yessian, he freelanced for numerous clients and post houses, following his early career at audioEngine and Howard Schwartz Recording.

Powers’ background includes music production, live action production, and business development. Before joining Yessian and Vinylmix, she held sales and representation roles at companies like Comma Music, Chelsea, Commercial Artists Management, and Red Car. “The newfound independence we have as Sound Goods opens us up to a new world of potential collaborations,” said Powers. “The sky’s really the limit.”

Sound Goods plans to cultivate a diverse pool of top talent, starting with Mixer and Sound Designer Jarrett Farkas, known for his work on PBS’s Live From The Artist’s Den and the TEDEd animated series. “We’re beyond thrilled to have him in our community,” said Fonger.

The partners are eager to work across various genres and media forms, from short films and feature documentaries to experiential events and installations. “In just the short time we’ve been up and running as Sound Goods, we’ve been contacted about projects in every one of those categories,” said Powers. “We are excited and thankful for the interest we’ve received.”

For their clients, the transition to Sound Goods will feel familiar. “Our dedication to clients and to the work remains exactly the same,” said Fonger. “What’s different is that as Sound Goods, we aim to grow something that’s a bit larger than ourselves and offer that same ethos to a wider group of clients through an expanded community of artists.”

Reel 360 News wishes Weston and Angelina the best of luck in their new venture.
