REELated:
Directed by Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbassi, The Apprentice will be released in the U.S. and Canada on October 11, just weeks before the November elections. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, receiving an eight-minute standing ovation, but it has faced significant pushback from Trump’s team, who have described the film as “pure fiction.” The former president’s lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to block the release, calling it filled with “blatantly false assertions.”
To counter these challenges, the filmmakers have launched a Kickstarter campaign called “Release the Apprentice” to keep the film in theaters for as long as possible, noting the difficulties they have faced in securing widespread distribution.
The Apprentice is poised to generate significant attention as it approaches its release date, fueled by both anticipation and controversy.
