Try to keep up with the first Flash trailer

There were a number of big… like really big… trailers released during the Super Bowl that we have not covered. One of them was the highly-anticipated superhero multiverse/time travel trailer for The Flash starring the troubled Ezra Miller.

The actor may be troubled, but the trailer is not. It’s actually fast and kicks major ass after seeing the introductions of Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sashe Calle’s Supergirl.

The nearly 3-minute trailer begins with whom we assume to be Michael Keaton’s Batman asking The Flash aka Barry (Ezra Miller) if he can travel anywhere, and why he wants to stay in this world. While Barry, in a brand new shiny suit, stands in a quiet neighborhood, staring at his childhood home. We then cut to Wayne Manor and see a bloodied Batman cowl lying on the ground. Then, we see Ben Affleck’s version of Batman on his Batpod during what we assume to be the climax of the film.

Barry finally answers – he wants to stay because this is the world where his mother gets to live. Watch below:

James Gunn has said that The Flash is, “one of the best superhero movies ever made.” After this trailer, we believe him. Sashe Calle’s Supergirl is just astounding especially when we see her take flight and take on several armed guards. Michael Keaton appears confident in his return to the cave. Michael Shannon looks as formidable as ever returning as Man of Steel’s General Zod.

And Ben Affleck brings the same gravitas to the role that he did in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In addition to this amazing trailer, Warner Bros has released a new poster and character posters as well:

The official description says: Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.

That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash ensemble also includes rising star Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon (Bullet Train, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Ron Livingston (Loudermilk, The Conjuring), Maribel Verdú (Elite, Y tu mamá también), Kiersey Clemons (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Sweetheart), Antje Traue (King of Ravens, Man of Steel), Ben Affleck (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Deep Water, The Town) and Michael Keaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Batman).

The film is produced by Barbara Muschietti (the IT films, Mama) and Michael Disco (Rampage, San Andreas). The screenplay is by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Bumblebee), with a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Joby Harold (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Army of the Dead), based on characters from DC. The executive producers are Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman and Marianne Jenkins.

The Flash is set to open in theaters in North America on June 16, 2023 and internationally beginning 14 June 2023.
