Tom Cruise takes us behind the scenes of blowing up a train

Tom Cruise is arguably the last great movie star standing. It’s not so much his maturity as an actor (he has gotten immensely better with age) or the incredible death-defying stunts he performs. It’s really his dedication to rewarding the audience with a film that is worth leaving our houses for.

He did it last year with Top Gun: Maverick. And now, he is doing it with Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One.

With the film receiving rave reviews and on the cusp of its release next week, Paramount Pictures has released a behind-the-scenes featurette for the train fight sequence in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One sounds thrilling.

It’s impressive to see the dedication of Cruise and McQuarrie to creating practical and realistic action sequences. Building a train specifically for the purpose of destroying it adds an extra level of authenticity to the scene. The challenges involved in designing the different train carts and executing the sequence must have been immense.

Esai Morales, who plays the antagonist, has a brutal fistfight with Cruise. “I’ve done fight scenes, but to do them on a moving train is trial by fire. But that’s how Tom likes to do things.”

The fact that the train reached a speed of 60 mph during the fight between Tom Cruise and Esai Morales adds to the intensity and excitement of the scene. It’s clear that both actors pushed themselves to deliver a captivating performance while dealing with the added difficulty of performing stunts on a moving train. Watch the insanity below:

“When we started talking about this movie in terms of a sense of adventure, an action sequence on a train is something we always wanted to do,” says director Christopher McQuarrie, adding “We wanted to build upon the previous films and apply that knowledge to something practical and real and bring this train sequence to another level.”

He also noted, “There is not a surplus of trains available to be wrecked. We had to build the train if we wanted to destroy it. To shoot it practically was extremely challenging. Now just to execute it, but to design all of the different train carts that could function on a real train track.”

Based on the featurette’s description, it seems like the train fight sequence in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will be a standout action setpiece, showcasing the franchise’s commitment to delivering thrilling and immersive experiences for the audience.

Fans of the Mission: Impossible series will undoubtedly be eagerly anticipating the release of the film on July 12 to see this exhilarating train sequence and the rest of the action-packed adventure.
