Prime Video brought Middle-earth roaring back to Hall H Friday, unveiling the first teaser for Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and confirming that Sauron’s rise is entering its most dangerous chapter yet.

The new footage, debuted before more than 6,500 fans at San Diego Comic-Con, embraces a noticeably darker tone as Sauron’s campaign to dominate Middle-earth accelerates. With the fall of Eregion behind him, the Dark Lord has established himself within Barad-dûr and begun forging the weapon that will define Tolkien’s mythology: the One Ring.

The teaser showcases a world on the brink of collapse. Sauron’s armies sweep across Middle-earth, leaving only scattered strongholds such as Khazad-dûm, Lindon and Rivendell standing against him. The footage hints that longtime enemies may be forced into uneasy alliances if the free peoples hope to survive. Watch below:

The Hall H Panel

While the trailer offers sweeping battles, towering monsters and glimpses of the massive scale fans have come to expect, the biggest reveals came during the Hall H presentation itself.

Perhaps the most unexpected announcement was that Simon Pegg will voice the Balrog, marking the first time the legendary creature will speak in a live-action adaptation of Tolkien’s work. The reveal came during an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette highlighting Season 3’s creatures, including Fell-beasts, Mûmakil, Orcs and the returning Balrog.

Prime Video also introduced several major new characters joining the sprawling ensemble. Eddie Marsan will play Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV. Andrew Richardson joins the series as Anarion, the younger son of Elendil and brother of Isildur, while Adam Young portrays Marnûkh, a mysterious Orc whose true nature remains a mystery.

They join previously announced newcomers Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, and Zubin Varla as Khamûl the Easterling, a character longtime Tolkien fans will recognize as one of the future Nazgûl.

Hall H also got an immersive surprise when four armored Nazgnagôl interrupted the panel. Introduced as Sauron’s ring-servants during the Second Age, the ominous figures appear to represent an earlier evolution of the Ringwraith mythology, expanding the show’s interpretation of Tolkien’s lore before the Nine Kings of Men become the Nazgûl audiences know from The Lord of the Rings.

Set five years after the fall of Eregion, Season 3 finds Middle-earth fully at war. As Sauron’s influence spreads, Dwarves, Elves, Men and Wizards must unite in a desperate attempt to stop him before the One Ring is completed and his domination becomes inevitable.

The Hall H panel featured showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, alongside cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman and Jamie Campbell Bower, with Benjamin Walker serving as moderator in character as High King Gil-galad.

The first four episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 premiere Nov. 11 on Prime Video. Episodes five and six arrive Nov. 18, followed by the two-part season finale on Nov. 25th.
