Former Disney staffer launches matchmaking app

Constance Curtis was exhausted from swiping on dating apps and experiencing all the bad behaviors that came along with them.

You know, the ghosting, guys showing up looking 20 years older than their profiles.

And of course, the illustrious… well, let’s call it a “Richard picture” here.

To try another route, Curtis turned to matchmakers. They only wanted to charge her $14,000.

That’s almost a year’s tuition at your favorite state college. What’s a University of Arizona, entrepreneurial girl got to do to meet a decent man in Los Angeles?

If you’re Curtis, you create your own matchmaking app.

Earlier this year, Curtis created what she describes as the revolutionary “The List.” It’s a first-of-its-kind mobile dating app that uses the best of today’s tech and combines it with the old world custom of matchmaking. Think Bumble meets Fiddler on the Roof.

According to Curtis, the application leverages real-life matchmakers and technology to help its members find more meaningful, lasting love connections with professionals.

“Modern romance needs to have a balance of old fashioned intuition and science,” Curtis told Reel 360. “Most of the mobile dating apps on the market have lost the human touch, and we’re changing the game with The List.”

She adds, “Our matchmakers will search, vet and manage all potential dates, thus saving members from wasting their time sifting through endless online profiles – plus providing them with quality, handpicked connections. No more swiping, no more ghosting and no more failed connections.”

What sets the app apart from the Tinders and Bumbles of the world, besides the $2500 elite membership price, is that the matches are actually curated by Curtis and her List team of matchmakers.

Once you have downloaded the app and created your profile, a personal matchmaker will meet with you to discuss and provide feedback on what qualities you are looking for in a potential suitor. That matchmaker will also send you potential matches in your inbox. It squashes many of the problems Curtis ran into while she was on other apps.

“Online ghosting is a problem. Valuable time goes into searching and vetting a potential date and just like that, the connection suddenly disappears. All those hours I consumed trying to get to know someone… gone. Back to the drawing board. Profiles are misleading. I can do all the “googling” and vetting I want, but there is no guarantee their profile bio or pictures are true to who they are. When I finally meet them in person, it’s typically very disappointing.”

After graduating from The University of Arizona, Curtis went to work at Disney in promotions working on films including Pirates of the Caribbean and Cars. Realizing she wanted to be more of her own boss, Curtis left the mouse and became an event planner in Manhattan Beach.

It was here where she coordinated more than 200 weddings and events. After watching various couple heading off into wedded bliss, Curtis decided to raise the $250,000 in capital she would need to launch The List initially in southern California. Now, she is on a mission to raise $750K more to expand the List to five unnamed markets.

The former Disney exec, who is on The List herself, adds one final tidbit about the app – neither Elsa, Moana, or any of the other Disney princesses are on The List to date.
