Ted Danson x JB Smoove go full sitcom for Consumer Cellular

Consumer Cellular

Consumer Cellular is leaning even harder into comedy, and comfort, with its latest campaign, bringing Ted Danson back into the fold and adding Curb Your Enthusiasm favorite JB Smoove for a buddy-comedy twist on saving money.

Created by THE MAYOR and directed by Noam Murro, the new work plays like a collection of mini sitcom moments, using humor and familiarity to highlight Consumer Cellular’s biggest strengths: straightforward pricing, strong coverage, and highly rated customer service for Americans 50 and over.

The spots all live inside Consumer Cellular’s now-established orange-hued world, with Danson once again serving as the calm, charming guide. This time, he’s joined by Smoove, whose energy and comedic timing instantly broaden the campaign’s appeal and inject fresh momentum.

The hero spot, titled “JB,” introduces Smoove as a newcomer to the Consumer Cellular universe. His playful back-and-forth with Danson underscores the campaign’s central idea: it’s never too late to switch and save. The message is clear without being preachy — unlimited plans start at just $30 per month per line for two lines — delivered with warmth and humor rather than hard sell tactics. Watch below:

Another standout, “Beep Bop Boop,” takes on AI-driven customer service. Danson introduces an eager robot assistant, only for it to be gently outclassed by real human support. The spot taps into growing consumer fatigue around automation, positioning Consumer Cellular’s human-first service as a competitive advantage in an increasingly impersonal category.

In “Whiteboard,” Danson breaks down the math, literally. Using a dynamic whiteboard, he walks viewers through the savings and coverage benefits, including unlimited talk, text, and data for $40 per month — roughly half the cost of “Big Wireless.” The tone remains approachable, encouraging viewers to call with questions rather than overwhelming them with jargon.

The campaign builds naturally on the brand world Consumer Cellular and THE MAYOR established earlier this year, keeping the look and tone consistent while expanding the comedic range with Smoove’s addition. It’s a smart evolution that feels additive rather than disruptive.

More broadly, the work continues to prove that celebrity-driven advertising can still feel authentic when the casting is right and the writing respects the audience. Danson and Smoove don’t feel like pitchmen. They feel like characters viewers wouldn’t mind spending a little time with.

Running across CTV and social, the campaign reinforces Consumer Cellular’s long-term positioning as a wireless brand built on value, clarity, and trust. And by framing savings as something worth laughing about, THE MAYOR once again shows how humor, when handled with restraint, can be one of the most effective tools in advertising.

For that reason, this campaign lands as a confident, well-timed extension of a partnership that clearly understands its audience and knows how to keep them smiling while getting the point across.
