Team One explores a world where reality is rare

Team one real

Isn’t it nice to know some things are still real? In a world flooded with fakes, replicas, and increasingly flawless simulations, authenticity is becoming harder to find, and more valuable when you do.

Which makes it fitting that on a day built around mischief and illusion, a film arrives that asks a deceptively simple question: what is real?

That question drives “L’ultimo Uomo Reale” (“The Last Real Man”), a new film from Team One and director Sebastian Strasser, created in partnership with The RealReal.

Developed as an extension of The RealReal’s “Ask Yourself What’s Real” campaign, the piece leans directly into the growing tension between perception and reality in a digitally manipulated world.

At a time when much of the industry is using AI to produce content at scale, this film flips the script—using AI not just as a tool, but as the subject itself. The result is a tone that’s both playful and quietly unnerving, especially for anyone still clinging to the idea of the real thing.

Strasser constructs a hyper-real environment that feels entirely human—until it doesn’t. What begins as seamless gradually fractures, with subtle glitches giving way to a full unraveling that exposes the illusion underneath. Watch below:

“We’re moving into a world where ‘real’ is no longer a baseline, it’s a premium,” said Chris Graves, Chief Creative Officer at Team One. “We wanted to let the illusion feel convincing long enough to pull you in, then break it, so you’re forced to question what you’re actually seeing. Because what carries value now isn’t just craft. It’s credibility.”

That thinking mirrors The RealReal’s own approach to authentication, which combines human expertise with advanced technology to verify every item sold on its platform. With more than one million luxury goods passing through its authentication centers each month, the brand has built its business on proving what’s genuine.

Blending commentary with a wink, the film ultimately lands on a simple idea: in a world where everything can be replicated, verified authenticity isn’t just desirable—it’s essential.

“What I loved about this project is that everything mirrors everything,” noted Strasser. “A brand that proves authenticity. A human character who can’t. And a film made with AI that looks completely real—until you realize reality was the point all along.”

“L’ultimo Uomo Reale” debuts today on YouTube and across social channels.
