Steven Spielberg has officially completed the EGOT, earning his first Grammy Award on Sunday. The filmmaker won in the Best Music Film category as a producer on Music By John Williams, with the honor announced during the Grammys’ non-televised premiere ceremony ahead of the main broadcast. It marked Spielberg’s first Grammy nomination and his first win in the category.
With the Grammy now added to his résumé, Spielberg joins the small group of artists who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony over the course of their careers. Prior to Sunday, he had already secured four Emmys for The Pacific, Band of Brothers, Steven Spielberg Presents: A Pinky & The Brain Christmas, and Steven Spielberg Presents Taken, a Tony Award for producing A Strange Loop, and three Academy Awards for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan.
In a statement following the win, Spielberg thanked the Recording Academy and reflected on the film’s subject. “Thank you to all the Grammy voters, whose recognition of Music By John Williams means the world to me and our Amblin team, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, and congratulations to our partners at Imagine and the Walt Disney Company. This acknowledgment is obviously deeply meaningful to me because it validates what I have known for over 50 years: John Williams’ influence on culture and music is immeasurable and his artistry and legacy is unrivaled. I am proud to be associated with Laurent’s beautiful film.”
Spielberg is now one of just 21 individuals to achieve EGOT status. The list includes figures such as Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Viola Davis, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Alan Menken, and songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
The milestone adds yet another historic achievement to Spielberg’s decades-spanning career and further underscores the cultural impact of Music By John Williams, which celebrates the legendary composer’s influence on film, music, and popular culture.
