Cross Step Content has announced the upcoming premiere of its first film, Gender Outlaw, a bodysurfing story. Directed by Cross Step Content founder Peter Williams, the documentary tells the story of transgender athlete Tyler Wilde.

International music studio Squeak E. Clean Studios crafted all original music, sound design, and final mix to accompany the gripping account of one man’s journey toward acceptance.

Gender Outlaw, a bodysurfing story, navigates the tumultuous waters that Wilde has had to move through as he searched for big surf, his true self and his chosen family.

This is a story about the resilience and acceptance that Tyler found, and that many transgender individuals have had to explore in their personal journeys as they go through their transition. Tyler is honest and raw about the process, but he also shows us how the joys in his life; bodysurfing and his unexpected community have helped him find his true self. Watch the trailer below:

REELated: Paulina Rubio to headline Long Beach Pride

Williams, a long-time friend of Tyler says “Throughout our friendship, I have had so many moments where Tyler’s journey has been a life lesson for me. It was time for me to share that with the world.”

Director Peter Williams is a Los Angeles-based award-winning filmmaker focusing on documentary and commercial work. Awards include The Webby’s, Andy’s, D&AD, One Show, British Arrows and Cannes Film Festival. Williams spent years working in the integrated production space at respected companies such as TBWA\Chiat\Day, 72andSunny, World Surf League and BBH.

Squeak E. Clean captured the mood–of the ocean, of somber tranquility, and of peaceful acceptance–with an original score of synth, choir and more, in time to the heartbeat of crashing waves. The audio and composition pair with the spirit of Tyler’s soothing message: that we should be able to walk this earth and live as our truest selves, in all walks of life.

Tyler hopes by telling his story, he can help to create a safer, more empathetic place for youth to become empowered and confident in their bodies and identities.
