Spot Welders’ Meyer cuts Xmas spot for Serviceplan

Who doesn’t like revisiting their childhood? Unless it was really crappy. However, for those who long for those days this holiday season, German discount supermarket chain PENNY Deutschland is inviting you to revisit yours.

In the new Christmas spot created by German agency Serviceplan, the heartfelt film depicts a group of senior citizens revisiting their carefree youth and unabashedly frolicking around a winter wonderland, creating snow angels, and sledding down white powdered hills.

Edited by Spot Welders’ Mischa Meyer and directed by Stuart McIntyre for Anorak Films to the soundtrack of Alphaville’s Forever Young, the jubilant spot is a hit with international audiences, evoking evoked emotion and already garnered more than 10 million views.

The Europe-wide campaign touches viewers through a mixture of nostalgia, stress reduction and deceleration. The film’s message, “Christmas is for children, so for us all,” not only conveys a message of encouraging people to have fun, but that Christmas should be celebrated as a time in which one forgets fears and worries and experiences life as an adult with cheerful, innocent childlike wonder.

The ad can currently be seen in Germany and in marking the launch of PENNY’s first international campaign, will also air in Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, and Hungary.

The brand has also incorporated the Instagram #KindBleibenChallenge on it’s social media channel, calling on adults to be like childlike again.

It’s a beautifully shot, edited spot that does make the Reel 360 team long for their childhood. But then again, who said we’ve grown up anyway?
