In response to the devastating events that unfolded in Israel on October 7th, 2023, Israeli/American singer and songwriter Sima Galanti has released a poignant new single titled Devotion. The rock-infused track, true to Sima’s edgy sound, serves as both a creative outlet and a spiritual expression of her emotions following the Hamas massacre in her homeland.
The tragic events on October 7th, marked by a brutal massacre perpetrated by Hamas, deeply affected Galanti’s life. The horrifying events, coupled with the hostage situation, rocket attacks, and the subsequent war, compounded by a surge in antisemitism globally, left her grappling with grief, pain, sadness, fear, and anger. In response, she turned to her music as a means of constructive and creative healing.
“The horrific massacre, the heartbreaking hostages’ situation, the rocket attacks and the war we were forced into, on top of the growing Antisemitism in America and around the world, shook me to my core,” commented Sima. “I felt like my life crumbled at that moment. I felt so much grief, pain, sadness, fear, and anger that I was isolating myself and sinking into a dark hole.”
Sima decided to channel these complex emotions into a musical creation, resulting in the spiritually charged and emotionally intense Devotion. Penned by Sima herself, the rock genre song features lyrics in both English and Hebrew, adapted from a prayer found in The Book of Psalms. Watch below:

“In the lyrics, I chose to change the word ‘praise’ to ‘prayers’ in the phrase ‘O Lord, open my lips and my mouth shall say your prayers,'” explained Sima. “To me, it felt more like a call for help, a call for God to hear my prayers.”
The accompanying music video, directed and produced by Sima, captures the essence of Israel, the Jewish people, deep faith, spirituality, and their connection to the land and God. Filmed in Jerusalem, old Jaffa/Tel Aviv, and featuring drone shots of the scenic landscapes, the visuals symbolize Sima’s life journey and her troubled homeland. The video crescendos with a musical climax, emphasizing the powerful narrative of Devotion.
“I’d like to empower and encourage positivity and strength with this song,” concluded Sima. “Through my music, I’m transforming my pain into hope and positivity, and I hope that ‘Devotion’ can give hope, uplift, and inspire others around the world.”
