Selena Gomez is reminding everyone that all bodies are beautiful with her recent Instagram post. The star turned to her social media platform to proudly show off her kidney transplant scar, and gave us a better look at the larger tattoo on her thigh.
Gomez states, “When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar, I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up. Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through… and I’m proud of that.”

In the photo, she’s wearing a baby blue one-piece bathing suit from La’Mariette, a brand whose mission is near and dear to Selena’s heart. “T – Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, whose message is just that…all bodies are beautiful,” she wrote to the brand’s founder, Theresa Marie Mingus. In addition, tattoos are meaningful for Selena, and the body art she chooses often has personal significance to her. Earlier this year, fans noticed the back of Selena’s upper right arm a series of numbers that appear to mark the date of her kidney transfer surgery in June 2017. Selena shared that she and her friend, Francia Raisa, who donated her kidney, got matching tats to mark the important occasion.
As always, we’re feeling inspired by Selena’s bravery. While it wasn’t easy to show her scar at first, it’s great to see one of our favorite stars embracing the vital moments of her life, no matter how difficult they may have been.
