Samara Weaving is trading blood-soaked wedding gowns for mutant mayhem. The Australian actor has reportedly been cast as Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot, marking her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film will be directed by Thunderbolts filmmaker Jake Schreier.
Weaving is best known for her performances in Ready or Not, The Babysitter, Scream VI, Bill & Ted Face the Music and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Her blend of sharp humor, icy confidence and barely contained danger makes her a particularly intriguing choice for one of Marvel’s most complicated mutants.
Introduced in the comics as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, Emma Frost began as one of the X-Men’s most formidable enemies. She later became a key member and leader of the team, evolving into one of the franchise’s most morally complex characters.
Frost possesses extraordinary telepathic abilities and can also transform her body into organic diamond, granting her increased strength and durability. In other words, she can read your mind and then punch through a wall. Efficient.
The character was previously played by January Jones in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, though Weaving’s casting signals a fresh interpretation for Marvel’s rebooted mutant universe.

The new X-Men film will become Marvel Studios’ first standalone feature centered on the team since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. The acquisition returned the film rights to the X-Men and other mutant characters to Marvel after nearly two decades under Fox.
While details surrounding the story remain under wraps, Schreier’s involvement suggests Marvel may be aiming for a character-driven approach to the property. The director earned praise for balancing dysfunctional personalities, emotional damage and large-scale superhero action in Thunderbolts.
Weaving’s casting also follows Marvel’s latest wave of mutant expansion across the MCU, with legacy X-Men actors returning for crossover appearances and new performers beginning to take ownership of familiar roles.
Emma Frost has long been a fan favorite because she refuses to fit neatly into the categories of hero or villain. She is brilliant, ruthless, fashionable, and almost always the most intimidating person in the room.
