SAG-AFTRA sets negotiations date with AMPTP

SAG-AFTRA-NETFLIX

While the WGA East and West are nearing the end of their SAV vote, SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have agreed to begin formal contract negotiations on June 7, 2023.

SAG-AFTRA represents over 160,000 actors, broadcasters, and other media professionals across the United States, while the AMPTP is a trade association that represents major studios and production companies.

According to the SAG-AFTRA website, “Both the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA are approaching this process as an opportunity to engage in thoughtful and interactive conversations that result in a mutually-beneficial deal.”

There are a number of issues to be covered during the upcoming negotiations. These include compensation, working conditions, and benefits for performers in the film and television industry.

The current agreement was signed in 2017 and included increased wages, improved residuals, and better protections against harassment and discrimination. However, with the outbreak and industry-wide shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, performers have faced significant financial losses and uncertainty about their future employment prospects.

The Guild has emphasized the importance of securing a fair and equitable contract that provides stability and support for its members. SAG-AFTRA has also called for stronger safety protocols on sets.

The current contract with the AMPTP expires on June 30, 2023.
