SAG-AFTRA president Carteris responds to COVID-19

SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris has released a video on the SAG-AFTRA website where she details the performer’s union response to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The video, posted today, was sent via email to the union’s 160,000 members. SAG-AFTRA has already closed the national headquarters in LA to minimize exposure to and spreading the virus.

“I want you to know that we have taken aggressive steps to continue to slow the transmission of COVID-19,” Carteris says in the video. “I recognize that one of the most challenging concerns facing our members during this national emergency is the loss of work. That causes untold economic pain and hardship.” Watch below:

Carteris also urged members to reach out to lawmakers to demand for inclusion in any stimulus package that the government puts together. She also says in the video that the union has been in touch with other unions and guilds, noting that SAG-AFTRA is part of a joint response from entertainment industry unions calling on Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Congress to pass emergency relief legislation.

“If you need help, ask,” Carteris said. “If you can help, please give. Together, we can do anything. Be safe.”
