Ryan Murphy ignores WGA strike; continues productions

As the WGA (Writers Guild of America) strike enters its 55th day, picketing efforts have targeted the Ryan Murphy-produced show American Horror Story: Delicate.

Three Ryan Murphy-produced shows, including American Horror Story Season 12, American Horror Stories Season 3, and American Sports Story Season 1, are still in production amidst the ongoing writers’ strike. These shows are among the last scripted series still in production on the East Coast, as the WGA has successfully shut down multiple shows through picketing.

Members of the Writers Guild of America have been striking for fairer compensation among other issues in a climate dictated by technological progression. The use of AI in screenwriting is also among issues plaguing the WGA members who are demanding that AI should be regulated.

Delicate, currently shooting in Manhattan, became the focus of picketers’ efforts last Wednesday. WGA East members on Twitter shared information, including a video of star Kim Kardashian entering the production.

T Cooper, an executive producer of The Blacklist and a WGA strike captain, tweeted that Kardashian had crossed their picket line to work on Ryan Murphy’s AHSFX Hamptons on 52nd Street in NYC. “Doesn’t appear that @KimKardashian is a friend of the labor movement. She just now crossed our picket line to work on @ryanmurphyprod Ryan Murphy’s @AHSFX Hamptons, shooting here on 52nd in NYC. The workers are in the right. See: all of history #wgastrong #wgastrike

REELated:

Warren Leight, another WGA strike captain and former executive producer of Law & Order: SVU, later alleged that crew members on American Horror Story had been told they would be blacklisted in Ryan Murphy’s projects if they respected the picket and didn’t cross the line.

According to Variety, a spokesperson for Murphy denied Leight’s allegations, calling them “absolute nonsense” and “categorically false.” However, Leight’s original tweet was removed, but he retweeted others’ reactions to it and T Cooper’s report from outside the AHS set.

American Horror Story remains a significant part of FX programming, with a renewal through Season 13. Kim Kardashian is set to appear in Season 12. American Horror Stories is an episodic anthology series featuring guest stars in each episode, while American Sports Story focuses on the case of former NFL player and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez.
