‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ chomps up box office

Chomp. Chomp. Chomp. Chomp.

That’s the sound of Universal Pictures’ and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom eating up initial box office predictions and digesting $150 million last weekend.

The franchise, showing no sign of extinction, completely dominated even though critical reception was mixed, earning a 50% splat on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences enthusiastically went to see the fifth film directed by J.A. Boyana (2016’s A Monster Calls) in the series. Audience scores gave the dino-flick an A- according to CinemaScore.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is now the third-highest grossing film of the year, behind only Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Marvel’s Black Panther. The film’s opening was also the second best in Universal Pictures. The winner still is held by the original Jurassic World at $208.8m.

In other news, there were actually other films released. For instance, Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 (that other indie film) came in second with approximately $80 million domestically, bringing its domestic total to an incredible $350.3 million.
