Reel Black List Celebrates: Diallo Riddle, creator of South Side

Diallo Riddle

Editors’ Note: Black history is American history. Reel 360 News’ Reel Black List is a commitment to recognizing the impact of Black voices across film, television, music, media, and culture every single day of the year. In a moment when DEI initiatives have been challenged and hard-won progress feels increasingly fragile, it’s more important than ever to amplify the voices of Black artists, leaders, and innovators who have shaped the industry and continue to move it forward. Today, we spotlight talented director, writer, actor, and television producer Diallo Riddle.

Diallo is an award–winning director, writer, actor, and television producer, best known for creating and starring in the TV shows South Side and Sherman’s Showcase. He also starred on NBC’s Marlon opposite Marlon Wayans and has appeared on shows including Silicon Valley, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Insecure.

Recently, Diallo has been the co-creator and co-host of the One Song podcast, which is produced by Kevin Hart for Hartbeat Productions. The podcast blends his passions for music and comedy.

Let’s meet Diallo!

Which dream did you outgrow? Which one won’t go away?

Going into politics. But the music career won’t die.

Was your career a choice, an accident, or a survival instinct?

A bit of an accident. I thought I’d be more of a writer than an actor.

Who were your mentors?

David Alan Grier. Jimmy Fallon. Malon Wayans.

What’s a risk you took that looked insane to everyone else but felt necessary to you?

Getting married after four months of dating.

What lie do you tell yourself to keep going?

The nights spent going out will all go into a script one day (hopefully not a lie)

You wake up in a film universe – what is it? Who do you play?

The Indiana Jones Universe. I take over Simon Katanga’s boat (from Raiders).

What’s something people assume about you that’s completely wrong?

That I grew up in Chicago.

What are you chasing next: clarity, chaos, peace, or power?

Haha. Power. The first 3 I have.

What does success look like when nobody’s watching?

A fun family movie night. And trips to amusement parks with the Lightning Pass.

What does 2026 look like for you?

Hopefully, several shows are in production.
