Paul McCartney has shared a new detail from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, revealing that Swift personally asked him to perform one of The Beatles’ most romantic songs during the July 3 ceremony at Madison Square Garden.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, McCartney said Swift chose I Want to Hold Your Hand” for him to perform at the wedding. He then suggested she join him.
“She asked me to do it,” McCartney said, adding that he told Swift, “You should sing along, and you should sing it to your man.”
Kimmel called it “reasonable advice,” drawing laughs from the audience.
McCartney’s appearance adds another glimpse into the star-studded celebration, which reportedly also included performances from Stevie Nicks and Avril Lavigne. Guests including Sabrina Carpenter and Tim McGraw were also believed to have participated in an impromptu karaoke set.
Swift and McCartney have a longstanding connection. The pair appeared together on the cover of Rolling Stone in 2020, while Swift previously collaborated with McCartney’s daughter, Stella McCartney, on a capsule collection tied to the Lover era.
McCartney’s involvement in the wedding was already notable. His latest comments make the moment feel even more personal, with Swift selecting the song herself and McCartney encouraging her to turn it into something she can share directly with Kelce.
