O’Keefe Reinhard & Paul (OKRP) capitalized on the timeless hilarity of a football-to-the-groin in Who Wouldn’t, a Groupon commercial set to air during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LII next Sunday.
Featuring Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish, the 30-second spot reinforces Groupon’s commitment to neighborhood businesses by dealing a forceful pigskin rebuke to a rich man who declares that he opposes them.
Set to the Masterpiece Theatre theme song (“Rondeau,” by French composer Jean-Joseph Mouret), the physical humor and A-list spokesperson make the advertiser’s downhome message loud and clear: Groupon is all about local and family businesses.
“The Super Bowl is an opportunity to tell a more meaningful story about what Groupon stands for, beyond its offers and everyday savings,” explains Matt Reinhard, Executive Creative Director at OKRP. “Consumers today buy into a company’s mission and for Groupon that story is its support for the local marketplace.”
Haddish not only gets the point across with sassy charm, she is also a longtime, real-life Groupon fan.
“I’ve been speaking out for (Groupon) for years,” she recently told Business Wire. “I’ve invested lots of money into buying Groupon deals, and it’s about time I got an even bigger return on my investment than just saving money at my favorite local businesses.”
Heaven help the consumer who doesn’t listen to Tiffany Haddish.
In addition to the broadcast spot, Groupon agency-of-record OKRP has created over 20 long and short form digital videos, GIFs, stills, radio, social and digital engagement forms of content to help manage social during game day.
