Netflix, LALIFF celebrate Next Gen Latinx filmmakers

LALIFF
(The Next Gen of Afro-Latinx and Indigenous Filmmakers)

Last December, our friends at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) announced the ten visionary Latinx directors that were selected for the 2022 Latinx Inclusion Fellowship.

In partnership with Netflix through our Fund for Creative Equity, the second iteration of the LALIFF Inclusion Fellowship was expanded to build pathways into the industry for filmmakers within the Afro Latinx and Indigenous Latinx communities.

These ten filmmakers each received $20,000 production grants, and over the past months, they have worked closely with a group of industry mentors, including Netflix executives across creative development, casting and production teams as well as the artistic team at LALIFF, to develop and fully produce original projects.

Their short films premiered on June 4, as part of the 2022 LALIFF lineup and the filmmakers will participate in the festival’s Industry Days programming to further boost their industry exposure. From stories of family and ancestry to fairytales and experimentation with genre, these films represent the fantastic range of talent and creativity that defines this year’s cohort.
