Following recent scheduling conflicts (most likely due to The Bear filming this month in Chicago), Geraldine Viswanathan has been tapped to replace Ayo Edebiri in Marvel’s upcoming movie Thunderbolts. The casting change comes just a week after Lewis Pullman was announced to take over Steven Yeun’s role in the film.

Edebiri, known for her Emmy-winning performance in FX’s The Bear, had to exit the superhero project due to unforeseen conflicts. Her departure marks another adjustment for the film, which has already faced delays attributed to the writers and actors strikes of 2023.

Consequently, the release date for Thunderbolts has been pushed to July 25, 2025. Despite these setbacks, the movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Jake Schreier is set to direct the feature, which has yet to commence filming.

Edebiri was initially slated to portray an assistant to Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, in the movie. However, she will have to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts. As a replacement, Viswanathan will assume the role.

Viswanathan, represented by WME, brings her talent to the Marvel universe following her appearances in the Apple feature The Beanie Bubble and the upcoming Ethan Coen-directed Focus Features film Drive-Away Dolls. Additionally, audiences can anticipate her role alongside Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell in the Amazon comedy “You’re Cordially Invited.”
