Warner Bros. Pictures recently released an official 2022 movie preview kit featuring an updated cast list and synopsis for many of their movies, including the HBO Max original Batgirl

This will be the first-ever live-action feature film to star the popular DC Superhero, Batgirl.

In a surprise that is rocking the internet, the listing for the DC Comics adaptation has one major unexpected twist in it as it notes that Michael Keaton is slated to appear, seemingly reprising his role of Bruce Wayne/Batman from Tim Burton’s Batman

Keaton is already lined up to reprise his role in The Flash movie, which marks his return to the Dark Knight after three decades. Ben Affleck will also briefly reprise his role as the DCEU’s Batman in that film.

Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah who were previously asked if Batman would appear in the movie and they might have alluded to Keaton’s Batman in an interview with VRTNWS earlier this year. When the two were asked if Batman would make an appearance in the Batgirl film, the duo laughed and said only if it was “the real one”. They then went on to discuss who was “the real one” without confirming which Batman they believe to be “the real one.”

“The real” Batman has been a hotly debated subject for decades now and it seems everyone, even these directors, have their own idea of who the real, true, caped crusader really is. The two directors listed almost all of the actors who have played the role over the years, probably in an attempt to misdirect their true intentions.

Leslie Grace (In the Heights) will take the lead in Batgirl as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. The film also stars Brendan Fraser, J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Being the Ricardos), and Jacob Scipio. The Batgirl script is written by Christina Hodson, whose work includes Birds of Prey and the upcoming The Flash movie. Executive Producers include Michael E. Uslan, Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman, and Christina Hodson

Batgirl is in production now, and is expected to premiere on HBO Max in 2022.
