March 21 memorial event planned for Ruth Ratny

ReelChicago founder Ruth L Ratny

A memorial celebration honoring the life of Reel Chicago founder Ruth L. Ratny will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Untitled Supper Club in River North, 111 W. Kinzie St. Friends and well wishers are invited to view a special presentation and indulge in a cash bar.

The legendary chronicler of Chicago’s film production community was laid to rest beside her parents in Lincolnwood’s New Light Cemetery last Friday, March 10. Per Ruth’s wishes, the occasion was attended by a small crowd of family members and close friends.

During the ceremony, several of Ruth’s closest associates provided personal testimonials to her life and career.

Ruth Ratny

Through an abundance of laughter and tears, stories of her passion for the Chicago production community and her ability to read tarot cards were mixed with endless recollections of her strength and generosity.

One of her longest and most trusted associates revealed that, years ago, Ruth had offered her home to a mother and daughter who were living on the street. Her relationship with the pair lasted until the week before her death, when she helped them again.

Although Ruth was reluctant to boast about her tendency to comfort for the less fortunate, especially women and children, the memorial celebration will devote ample time to boast about it for her.
