Warner Bros.’ Magic Mike’s Last Dance took the top spot at the box office with $8.2 million in its opening weekend. The sequel opened in only 1,500 theaters, which is roughly half that would be typical for wide release in North America.

In the film, Mike Lane (Channing Tatum) takes to the stage once again when a business deal that went bust leaves him broke and bartending in Florida. Hoping for one last hurrah, Mike heads to London with wealthy socialite Maxandra Mendoza (Salma Hayek) who lures him with an offer he can’t refuse and an agenda all her own. With everything on the line, he soon finds himself trying to whip a hot new roster of talented dancers into shape. The movie is panned by critics with a 46% “rotten” score on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences really seem to enjoy seeing a shirtless Tatum AGAIN and the audience score is holding at 75%.

After one week in third place after getting knocked down by M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin and 80 For Brady, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way Of Water moved back up into second place with a gross of $6.9 million, even though it’s down 39% from last weekend’s results.

Cameron is taking another top 5 spot with Titanic: 25th Anniversary Re-Release earning $6.4M at nearly 2,500 theaters and taking over the #3 spot. The original blockbuster became the highest-grossing movie of all time in its run in 1997 and 1998, and was celebrated by winning a record 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

80 For Brady took fourth place with $6M, a steep drop of 53% from last weekend’s opening and  last weeks #1 Knock At The Cabin dropped all the way down to a tie for fifth place with Puss In Boots: The Last Wish with the two #5 films each earning $5.5 million. Knock’s ten-day total of $23.5M places it as his lowest grossing movie ever, while the total domestic run for Puss In Boots is a very solid $159 million.

Sony’s A Man Called Otto held onto its spot at #7 after its seventh week at the box office. In its fourth week at the box office, Sony’s Missing also held onto the same position at #8. M3GAN slipped down from #7 to #9 in its sixth week at the box office, while Lionsgate’s Plane moved up from 11th to 10th in its 5th week in theaters.
