Lionsgate’s Fall set to become franchise

With the American Film Market (AFM) scheduled to begin tomorrow, expect a flood of announcements from studios and production companies. Lionsgate’s 2022 survival thriller Fall has made waves in the world of cinema, emerging as a critical and commercial success.

Now, fans of the suspenseful tale can rejoice as Capstone Studios announces its green light for not one but two sequels.

Scott Mann, the original film’s director and co-writer, is set to return to helm both sequels and will also take the director’s chair for the third film in the trilogy. The exciting news was confirmed by Capstone Studios, and the films’ production will reunite renowned producers Mark Lane and James Harris of Tea Shop Productions, Capstone’s Christian Mercuri, David Haring, and Scott Mann under the Flawless banner.

Additionally, executive producers Dan Asma, John Long, and Roman Viaris will be making a comeback. Capstone’s CEO, Christian Mercuri, will finance both sequels, with filming for Fall 2 scheduled to commence in June 2024. The worldwide distribution rights will be handled by Capstone Global.

“These two new sequels are wonderful opportunities to expand on the original. We want to now take the franchise even further as we assemble the very best team and ideas to ensure the next hair-raising, death-defying, and pulse-pounding film reaches global audiences,” said Christian Mercuri, Capstone CEO.

“I am thrilled to be continuing the Fall journey and taking it to the next level,” added Mann. “We’ve got a really special cinematic experience planned, and I’m immensely grateful to my fellow producers for backing the vision. I’m also excited to be working with new collaborators as well as reuniting with the original gang, and obviously can’t wait to be back filming thousands of feet up.”

The upcoming Fall 2 and Fall 3 will see the return of original characters from the first film while also leaving room for the introduction of new ones. The first movie followed two best friends, portrayed by Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner, who undertake a perilous climb to the top of an abandoned radio tower, only to find themselves stranded with no way to descend. Their expert climbing skills are put to the test as they desperately fight to survive the elements, a lack of supplies, and vertigo-inducing heights.

The original Fall film was an unexpected runaway success, topping the charts in several countries worldwide and amassing over $20 million at the box office, all with a modest $3 million budget. Recently, it received a nomination for the best foreign film at the Golden Rooster Awards, China’s equivalent of the Oscars. Notably, the original film also employed technology called TrueSync from Flawless, a company co-founded by Scott Mann, to modify expletives spoken in the film to more family-friendly language.
