Lambda Legal celebrates trans youth and their parents

Lambda Legal and Accompany Creative are continuing their emotionally resonant “Letters Of Love” campaign in June with a Father’s Day push celebrating trans youth and the parents who support them.

The campaign, which features trans young people and their families, is designed to counter an increasingly cruel and dehumanizing political landscape by focusing on something more intimate and universal: parental love.

The Father’s Day spot, “Arick and Emma,” centers on a father and daughter navigating love, learning and acceptance together. In the film, the father recalls not knowing what transgender meant when his daughter came out to him, but choosing to embrace her all the same. He speaks about letting his daughter guide him, while she thanks him for his unconditional support. Watch below:

“During such a politically divisive and antagonistic time in our country, we are proud to partner with Lambda Legal to elevate stories in which love and empathy are what truly matter in any and every parent-child relationship,” said Jason Keehn, founder of Accompany Creative.

“Letters Of Love” is part of an ongoing collaboration between Lambda Legal and Accompany Creative. The two previously partnered on “All Rise,” a long-term brand platform that helped build engagement and fundraising development among new and existing audiences. Last month, the Mother’s Day installment of “Letters Of Love” received coverage and praise from outlets including The Advocate.

“We are thrilled to work with Accompany Creative to celebrate trans youth and the parents who love them unconditionally,” said Lambda Legal CEO Kevin Jennings. “The ‘Letters Of Love’ campaign humanizes trans kids, elevates parental love and advocacy, and builds awareness of Lambda Legal’s role in the fight for equality.”

The campaign arrives at a moment of heightened political pressure on trans youth and their families. According to the campaign, more than 760 anti-trans bills have been introduced nationwide, while book bans and restrictions on transgender students participating in school sports continue to spread across the country.

Lambda Legal and Accompany Creative position the campaign as a direct response to that climate, emphasizing that families with trans kids are no different from any other family.

The work also points to the measurable impact of family support. According to the campaign, parental support can significantly reduce depression, anxiety and suicidality among transgender youth. Respecting a young person’s pronouns has also been associated with lower suicide attempt rates.

Founded in 1973, Lambda Legal has played a major role in precedent-setting LGBTQ+ civil rights victories, including cases involving the decriminalization of same-sex relationships, protections for youth in schools and workers on the job, and marriage equality. Most recently, the organization reached a settlement with the Trump administration to restore the Pride flag at the Stonewall National Monument in New York City.

Accompany Creative describes itself as a mission-driven creative agency, using its award-winning team and resources to support pro bono work for nonprofits. The agency has previously supported LGBTQ+-focused community campaigns through partnerships with Nespresso on behalf of the Ali Forney Center and with Searchlight Pictures’ Next Goal Wins, directed by Taika Waititi. Both efforts won Gold Shorty Impact Awards.

With “Letters Of Love,” Lambda Legal and Accompany Creative are continuing that advocacy through a simple but powerful lens: parents who love their children, children who are seen, and families choosing care over fear.

For Father’s Day, the message is clear. Love is stronger than politics.

At its heart, the campaign is about parents helping their children become the truest versions of themselves.
