Kirsten Dunst is heading into the world of The Housemaid. The Oscar-nominated actor has officially joined The Housemaid’s Secret, the upcoming sequel to the breakout psychological thriller, starring opposite Sydney Sweeney, who returns as Millie Calloway.

The follow-up continues Millie’s story after the events of the first film, in which she took a live-in nanny job with a wealthy family hiding dangerous secrets. While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, the next chapter is expected to introduce a new household and an even deeper web of deception.

“It is a privilege to bring The Housemaid’s next chapter to the screen with Kirsten Dunst,” said Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “She is an icon. Her career reflects an extraordinary range and fearlessness. Opposite the ever-magnetic Sydney Sweeney, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite as it seems.”

Director Paul Feig returns alongside screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, with Michele Morrone also set to reprise his role. The film is once again based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel series, with Sweeney and McFadden producing.

Feig recently confirmed the production is gearing up quickly, with cameras expected to roll this fall. “The script is all finished, we’re just doing a little bit of rewrites on it. We’re ready to go,” he said during Oscar weekend.

Amanda Seyfried, who starred in the first film, has also expressed interest in returning in some capacity, teasing the possibility of a cameo as the franchise expands.

The original The Housemaid proved to be a major theatrical success, nearing $400 million worldwide and marking a strong return to big-screen audiences for Feig after a run of streaming releases. A release date for The Housemaid’s Secret has not yet been announced, but with Dunst now in the mix, the sequel just got a serious boost of star power.
