Kentucky rape survivor shares story in new Kamala Harris ad

Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign unveiled a new ad on Wednesday featuring Hadley Duvall, a Kentucky rape survivor, who shares her story while blaming former President Donald Trump for restricting abortion access.

The 30-second spot, titled “Monster,” highlights Duvall’s experience of being abused by her stepfather starting at the age of 5 and becoming pregnant at 12. Duvall, who is now a reproductive rights advocate, recalls that before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, she “had options.”

“Because Donald Trump overturned Roe v. Wade, girls and women have lost the right to choose. Donald Trump did this. He took away our freedom,” Duvall states in the ad.

Set to Billie Eilish’s song “When the Party’s Over,” the ad also promotes voter registration and provides a link to iwillvote.com at the end. It will air during high-profile television moments such as the WNBA Playoffs, the Survivor season premiere, and Good Morning America. It will also run on Bravo, HGTV, and various broadcast and cable networks in key battleground states. Watch below:

Duvall, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August, has been an outspoken advocate for reproductive rights and recently joined Harris’s campaign during a rally in Pennsylvania as part of the vice president’s reproductive rights bus tour.

Harris shared the ad on social media, emphasizing the harm caused by what she called “Trump Abortion Bans,” which have prevented survivors of rape and incest from making decisions about their own bodies. “This is immoral. Women and girls like Hadley deserve better,” Harris wrote.

Earlier this week, Harris also blamed Trump for Georgia’s restrictive abortion law, after a report from ProPublica detailed the death of a 28-year-old mother who was denied care due to the state’s law.
