Outspoken comedian Jon Stewart is making a comeback to the platform that catapulted him to international stardom, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.
After a nine-year hiatus, Stewart will take on the roles of both executive producer and Monday night host of the late-night political satire program. The show will continue its tradition of featuring various guest hosts providing humorous takes on current events.
Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, expressed the excitement of having Stewart back in a statement, describing him as the voice of the generation. “Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season. In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”
Stewart, announcing his return on his verified X/Twitter account, humorously mentioned entering the “transfer portal” for his last year of eligibility. The move comes after former host Trevor Noah’s departure in 2022, with the show experimenting with different guest hosts, including Leslie Jones, Sarah Silverman, Chelsea Handler, and Charlamagne Tha God.

Monday nights, when Stewart is set to host, are traditionally the most-watched episodes of the week for The Daily Show. He had been hosting The Problem with Jon Stewart on Apple TV, but the show was canceled in 2023 amid disagreements with Apple over China and AI.
Stewart’s return to The Daily Show is scheduled for February 12, the day after the Super Bowl.
