Jeter, Barkley, Curry narrate Subway Series

Subway

When we hear “Subway Series,” our minds drift to Mets v Yankees or Cubs v Sox. However, that is not the case with QSR Subway, which six months ago launched the brand’s biggest menu refresh, the Subway Series. Now, the lineup has reached craveable champion status—being the ignition point for record-setting sales.

So naturally, it was time to cement these edible legends with athlete friends who’ve been assessing and analyzing the roster of 12 sandwiches all year long.  There’s a lot to say about the rookies, the upstarts and the sassy standout subs.

Created by dentsu,  “Behind The Series,” is a riff off ESPN’s 30 For 30 documentary series, which streams on Hulu.

The long-form film, directed by O Positive’s Kenny Herzog, features Rob Gronkowski, Patrick Mahomes, Charles Barkley, Tony Romo, Derek Jeter and Stephen Curry. Having worked with each multiple times over the last year, the dentsu Creative team says set days are pretty free, loose and fun. Watch below:

REELated:

It was important to have a partner who could get athletes to find their funny bones in a way that was sincere, not slapstick. Kenny’s work for Foot Locker—and the fact that he’s worked with everyone from James Harden to Manny Paqcuiao made him a perfect fit bringing the sports documentary series vibe.

The Subway Series is the outcome of more than a year of culinary tinkering with 100+ recipes explored. The drool-worthy lineup of complementary flavors and expertly crafted balance of proteins, cheese, sauces and fresh vegetables is divided into four categories. Customers can order any of the below by name or number:

  1. Cheesesteaks: #1 The Philly, #2 The OutlawTM, #3 The MonsterTM
  2. Italianos: #4 Supreme Meats, #5 Bella Mozza, #6 The Boss
  3. Chicken: #7 The MexiCali, #8 The Great GarlicTM, #9 The ChampTM
  4. Clubs: #10 All-American Club, #11 Subway Club, #12 Turkey Cali ClubTM

Additional variations of the campaign launched during the end of the NFL season and playoffs, as well as during the Peach Bowl on Dec. 31.
