The current co-chair and co-CEO of DC studios, James Gunn has responded to rumors shared in the Hollywood Reporter.
The online publication reported that Patty Jenkins’ latest plan for Wonder Woman 3 would not be moving forward and raised the possibility that actors such as Henry Cavill and Jason Momoa could be finished playing Superman and Aquaman.
It seems that some of what was reported didn’t quite sit right with Gunn and he wanted to set the record straight, however, he and co-chair and co-CEO Peter Safran have not yet unveiled their plans for the DCU with David Zaslav, the head of Warner Brothers Discovery, let alone the rest of the world, so it was necessary for him to be somewhat ambiguous in his response.
Gunn took to Twitter and released a statement in a Twitter thread of a series of tweets that read:
“So. As for the story yesterday in the Hollywood Reporter, some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.
Although this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of story takes time & we’re still just beginning.
Peter & I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told & in the audience itself & there would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming.
But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities & the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far & to help rectify what has not.
We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives.”
The final tweet in the thread featured a picture of DC characters and read:
“As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters & the stories the time & attention they deserve & we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask & answer.”

REELated:
It should be safe to assume that we can expect Gunn and Safran to begin the new DCU with a clean slate, but WBD has four DC films made under the previous regime due out next year: Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom before we can even get started with their vision of the future.
On TV, there are still four DC series – The Flash which will end its run with a shortened Season 9, Superman and Lois, Doom Patrol and Titans.
As we previously reported, not all DC projects will fall under Gunn and Safran’s leadership. Todd Phillips’ Joker sequel will be overseen by De Luca and Abdy and Matt Reeves’ Batman universe in which Robert Pattinson dons the cowl of the Caped Crusader seems to still be alive and kicking with Reeves writing the sequel to The Batman, which opened March 4. The filmmaker is also overseeing the launch of two Batman series that spin out of his movie, including The Penguin.
